Art and Photography Workshops

Taking Photos with Painting in Mind

Date:  Monday, June 16, 2008
Instructor:  Jane Ziegler
Price: $45 (member price $39)

A painter friend had done a rather nice painting with a stream running through it.  Except the stream was totally white.  I asked why she painted it that way and she said, "that's the way it looked in my photograph."  The camera rarely picks up all the elements needed to make a good painting.  The color is off, the perspective is flat and that grand mountain looks measly small.  Photos taken with a few tips in mind can be a convenient tool for the vacationing artist visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon.  Awareness of the camera's shortcomings and how to get around them when coupled with our own inspirations can add up to can expressive painting.

This course is not about to how to paint.  It is about how a novice photographer can take pictures that will be useful material for a painting.
Price includes printing out some of your digital photos.
Age range: 15 and up.

Richard will also guide participants through a mini sketching course called, “Learn how to draw anything”.  At night around the campfire, Richard will share stories from native cultures that relate to earth and her precious resources.
Price includes:  clay, drawing paper, pencils, dinner and breakfast basics (you bring the potluck side dishes), shared campsites.
Age range: 15 and up.
